PRAYER WALK
Prayer-walking is a form of intercessory prayer that involves bringing our prayers to the exact location where we long to see God’s movement. It’s not just walking around. It’s not just praying. It’s walking through an area with our eyes and hearts open to God’s leading, looking for signs of hope and signs of need, and then interceding for and praying blessings into those areas.
GUIDE TO PRAYER • WALKING IN THE COMMUNITY
Pray with the mind of Christ
– Ask God to share with you His thoughts towards your community. Seek to pray with greater insight for the people and places you encounter. Pray with empathy
– Ask God to open your heart to feel for your community the way He feels for them. Offer intercession from a place of compassion and understanding. Pray for blessings
–Pray for the people and places you encounter to know the love of Christ.
Pray from scripture
–Prayers based directly on God’s word can be especially powerful.
Pray in God’s power
– Prayer is the means to which the will of God is unfolded. Allow times of silence for God’s spirit to speak to you or through you.
SCRIPTURES FOR GUIDING PRAYER
PEACE FOR THE VALLEY // Jeremiah 29:7 Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”
OPEN HEARTS // Acts 16:14 One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message.
OPEN DOORS // Colossians 4:3-4 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.
AUTHORITIES // 1 Timothy 2:1-4 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
GOD’S FAVOR // Isaiah 61:1-4
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor. They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.
TURNED HEARTS // Luke 1:17 He will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
REMOVED OBSTACLES // Isaiah 57:14 And it will be said: “Build up, build up, prepare the road! Remove the obstacles out of the way
of my people.”
Holy Spirit’s Leading // Ephesians 4:12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up
SALVATION // Acts 26:17-18 I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them 18 to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’
HEALING // 2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
